High School Teacher

This is where the rubber hits the road, so to speak. As a high school teacher, you’ll teach the lessons and skills that prepare students for the next step in life.

High school teachers prepare students, grades 9th through 12th, for life after graduation. You’ll specialize in a subject, like English, Algebra, Chemistry or Government, assess students’ strengths and then create lesson plans that challenge and encourage. You could be the positive influence who encourages the next great a writer world-renowned physicist. As a teacher, you also help students get ready for standardized tests like the STAAR test and TSI assessment.

The first step to teaching at the high school level is a bachelor’s degree with a core subject concentration from a university accredited by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. You’ll also need to pass the appropriate tests to become certified as well as complete an Educator Preparation Program.
